Brennan Company, a Company You Can Trust: Firm
wins 2003 Southern Wisconsin Business Ethics Award Milwaukee….It was announced today from the
headquarters of T.E. Brennan Company by CEO, Arvid R. "Dick"
Tillmar, that the firm is the recipient of the 2003 Southern Wisconsin
Business Ethics Award sponsored by the Madison Chapter of the Society
of Financial Service Professionals. The American Business Ethics Award was
established in 1994 by the Society "to honor companies that demonstrate
a firm commitment to ethical business practices, everyday operations,
management philosophies, and response to crises or challenges." Locally, the award is given to companies
in two categories: large public or privately-owned companies with over 250
employees, and small companies with fewer than 250 employees. With 19 total
employees and associates in their Milwaukee headquarters, Madison branch and
field representative in the Northwest part of the state, T.E. Brennan
Company’s award is in the small business category. The large business winner
is Swiss Colony, the specialty food and gift catalogue-company based in
Monroe, Wisconsin. The firm now has the opportunity to go on
to national competition. Past honorees of note at the national level are:
Starbucks Coffee Company, Merck & Company, Texas Instruments, Pitney
Bowes, Inc., Bell Atlantic Corporation, and Kiplinger, Inc. According to Tillmar, "I joined the
firm ten years ago, and this is the biggest thing to happen to our 107-year
old firm during that time. I couldn’t be prouder for our clients, staff,
professional colleagues and company." Requirements for the award submission are
stringent, and break down into five areas: Executive Commitment to Business
Ethics, Company Ethics Program, Conflict Resolution Process, Demonstration of
Sound Ethical Business Practices and Demonstration of Good Corporate
Citizenship. The judging process was done in two stages. First, the entries
are reviewed by a group of students from the University of Wisconsin –
Madison and Edgewood College in Madison. Their choices are then sent on to
the final judges, which consist of a group of business leaders, academics,
media and members of the consulting communities. According to David K.
Sorenson, CLU, ChFC, Chairman of the 2003 Southern Wisconsin Business Ethics
Award for the Society of Financial Service Professionals, "T.E. Brennan
Company’s submission was the favorite coming out of the student review round,
and it obviously impressed the professionals as well. It was the most
complete and satisfied our every criteria." Tillmar summed it up: "I recommend
every company – large or small – go through this process. It was a lot of
hard work, and especially for a small firm, we devoted a lot of resources to
the project with input from our entire staff. It was worth every bit of it.
When the award submission was completed, I think we were all impressed with
the totality of our efforts at this company. I am pleased the judges
recognized it too." T.E. Brennan Company is the country’s
oldest independently owned management consulting firm, specializing in risk
management, employee benefit and human resources. Expert witness service in
these disciplines is also provided. |
